Education Ministry Disburses School Capitation Funds.
The Ministry of Education has begun distributing second-term capitation funds to schools nationwide, as promised by Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu. This move marks a significant step in alleviating financial pressures on educational institutions.
According to ministry sources, approximately Ksh30 billion has been disbursed, with funds expected to appear in school accounts starting today. Therefore, this development offers much-needed relief to school administrators who have been struggling with delayed funding. As a result, many had resorted to operating on credit and were even considering sending students home early for the half-term break next week.

Willie Kuria, acting National Chairman of the Kenya Secondary School Heads Association and Principal of Murang’a High School, acknowledged receiving news of the disbursement. However, he is still waiting for confirmation that the funds have arrived in his school’s account.
Earlier this month, during the launch of the fourth National Education Sector Strategic Plan 2023-27, CS Machogu assured that schools would receive their capitation funds before the end of June. The government typically disburses capitation funds in three installments: 50% for the first term, 30% for the second term, and 20% for the third term.
