KNEC Unveils Schedule for 2024 Junior School Pilot Exams.
The Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) has released the schedule for the 2024 Kenya Junior School Education Assessment (KJSEA) pilot exam, a significant step in the new Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC). The exams are set to take place from Monday, July 15 to Wednesday, July 17.
On Monday, students will be assessed in English Language, Composition, and Literacy Analysis. Subsequently, Tuesday’s exams will cover Mathematics, Creative Arts & Sports, and Pre-Technical Studies. Finally, the week will conclude on Wednesday with exams in Integrated Science, Agriculture & Nutrition, and Kiswahili Lugha.
Each subject has a specified duration, clearly listed next to the subject name. Notably, students do not receive extra time except for Braille users, who get an additional 30 minutes. This extra time ensures inclusivity and fairness for visually impaired students.

KNEC has outlined that the exam duration includes the time needed to read through the questions, unless special instructions state otherwise. This rule ensures that all students have an equal opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge and skills within the given time frame.
The KJSEA evaluates students’ understanding and mastery of junior school education concepts as they transition to Senior School. Furthermore, this pilot exam is crucial as it marks the first implementation of KJSEA under the CBC. Ultimately, the assessment aims to provide a comprehensive evaluation of students’ abilities, preparing them for the academic challenges ahead in Senior School.

By conducting these pilot exams, KNEC aims to ensure a smooth transition for students moving from junior to senior secondary education. The KJSEA will help educators identify areas where students excel and areas that need improvement, thus enhancing the overall quality of education in Kenya.
In summary, the release of the KJSEA schedule by KNEC is a significant development in Kenya’s education sector. It highlights the council’s commitment to providing a structured and fair assessment process under the new Competency-Based Curriculum. This initiative not only prepares students for their future academic endeavors but also reinforces the importance of a robust education system in Kenya.
