TSC Unveils Updated 2021-2025 CBA Hardship Areas.
Kenya’s Teachers Service Commission (TSC) is pivotal in managing various facets of teacher employment, encompassing recruitment, termination, promotion, and transfers. This organizational authority extends to primary and secondary school teachers, albeit with particular distinctions.
In the case of primary school teachers, TSC possesses the authority to assign them to any school as deemed necessary. Conversely, secondary school teachers enjoy autonomy when choosing their desired positions. They are permitted to select positions that align with their subject expertise and qualifications when such positions are advertised.
TSC also offers hardship allowances to teachers working in regions classified as hardship areas. These designations are arrived at after considering a range of factors, such as security concerns and adverse weather conditions. Teachers stationed in arid and semi-arid lands face formidable challenges, including substandard infrastructure and adverse working conditions.
The commission has meticulously pinpointed specific regions, encompassing counties and sub-counties, as hardship areas. Notably, Chief Principals in job group D5 stand to receive the highest hardship allowance, 38,100 Kenyan shillings. This acknowledgment underscores the commission’s commitment to recognizing and compensating educators who serve in particularly challenging environments.
