TSC Teachers’ Eligible Categories for Transfers in 2024.
Thousands of teachers who participated in the recent TSC interviews may be transferred, particularly those poised for administrative positions in 2024. Over 150,000 primary and post-primary school teachers were nominated in the December/January 2024 interviews, with many attending promotion interviews.
Dr. Nancy Macharia, the CEO of the Teachers Service Commission, announced that interview attendees would begin receiving their letters this week. She confirmed that letters would be sent to all teachers who expressed interest in the interviews, regardless of their success. Successful candidates will receive promotional letters and must submit five documents related to Chapter 6 of the Kenyan Constitution.

To complete their promotion process, teachers must provide a current Certificate of Good Conduct from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI). Additionally, they need an individual Clearance Certificate from the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB), a Tax Compliance Certificate from the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), a clearance certificate from an authorized Credit Reference Bureau (CRB), and clearance from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC).
Teachers who did not succeed in the interviews will likely receive regret letters but remain eligible to apply for future promotions. The interviews for primary school teachers were conducted from December 4–15, 2023, while those for secondary school teachers and Teacher Training College (TTC) tutors took place from January 3–16, 2024.
Given the current shortage of administrators in many schools, successful TSC teachers in 2024 will likely be transferred to these positions to fill the gaps.
