TSC Revokes County Directors’ Authority for Teacher Postings and Transfers.
The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has set a new policy that strips County Directors and Sub County Directors of education the powers to deploy and transfer teachers through an SMS.
This information comes from a notice by the commission to regional directors through an SMS advising field officers that these functions are the sole responsibility of the Deputy Director Staffing at the commission.
Communication from the commission further states that the deployment and transfer of teachers are under review. Teachers will receive communication once the process is complete.
It is important to note that this information has raised concerns about the fate of teachers awaiting promotion after completing the August promotion interviews.
In the previous arrangement, these responsibilities were decentralized to counties, with the County Directors of Education and Subcounty directors of education playing a significant role under the direction of the Regional Directors of Education.

After completing the August interviews, TSC promoted over 3000 applicants awaiting deployment.
According to TSC field officers, it is unclear why the commission has decided to communicate important information such as this through an SMS instead of official communication channels, including internal memos and circulars.
However, Gabriel Mathenge, TSC Head of Operations, is unaware of such communication. He has stated that if such information exists, its sole purpose is to remind field officers that transfers and deployments do not occur during the examination period.
TSC is also ready to conduct promotional interviews for 36,053 vacancies beginning December 4.
