Parliament To Hold Discussions with TSC Over Teacher Interdiction.
Next week, members of parliament will hold a discussion with TSC concerning the interdicted teachers.
This is after 129 teachers were interdicted by the commission for defying return to work orders in the North Eastern region over insecurity issues.
According to Tinderet, Member of Parliament Julius Melly, also chair of the National Assembly Committee on Education, the meeting between parliamentarians and the commission will occur on Tuesday, 24th October. The session will focus on finding an amicable solution for the stalemate between TSC and the interdicted teachers.
Melly argues that interdiction is not the right way to go when someone raises concerns about insecurity. He indicates that the commission should have listened to the teachers’ grievances.
He further argues that after speaking to leaders from the region, they are supportive and urge the government to heighten its fight against insecurity.
However, the member of parliament argues that it is impossible to transfer 3200 teachers and supports the transfer of those in highly risky areas in the region.

Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu has asked the teachers to return to their working stations, citing an improvement in security in three counties, including Garissa, Wajir, and Mandera.
In their meeting with members of parliament, non-local teachers from the Northeastern region indicate that they are the target of attacks in the area.
Apart from being a target of attacks, they also indicate that they are subject to discrimination from locals based on their religious and ethnic affiliations. In addition, they expressed their willingness to work in any other part of the country.
While presenting the petition on behalf of other teachers at County Hall in Nairobi on behalf of other teachers, Mr. Charles Achol raised an appeal for help to the legislators to help revoke their interdiction letters, reinstate their salary, and effect their transfers from the region.
