Millicent Omanga Declines Ruto’s Appointment to Nairobi Rivers Commission.
Former Senator Millicent Omanga recently declined an appointment by President William Ruto to the Nairobi Rivers Commission, citing personal reasons. Despite being honored by the opportunity, Omanga expressed her decision thoughtfully, emphasizing her commitment to Nairobi’s environmental restoration in other ways.
President Ruto appointed Millicent Omanga to the Nairobi Rivers Commission in a gazette notice dated October 25. The commission, tasked with revitalizing Nairobi’s rivers for better public health and environmental standards, will be led by former Starehe MP Bishop Margaret Wanjiru. However, Omanga respectfully turned down the offer, stating, “It’s truly a privilege to be considered for such a vital role in improving our beloved Nairobi’s environment and public health. After careful consideration, I must respectfully decline the appointment due to personal reasons.”

Omanga, who ran for Nairobi Woman Representative in the 2022 elections, reaffirmed her support for Nairobi’s river restoration efforts. She expressed her readiness to contribute in ways that align with her current commitments, saying she would be open to participating in Nairobi’s environmental projects outside the formal role.

These include Mumo Musuva, Grace Senewa Mesopirr, John Kioli, Eva Muhia, Amos Chege Mugo, Carlotta Dalago, Rael Chebichii Lelei, Benjamin Langwen, and Charles Karisa Dadu. Their collective expertise and involvement underscore the government’s focus on rejuvenating Nairobi’s waterways.
