IG Kanja and DCI Amin Appear in Court Over Mlolongo Abductions.
Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja and Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Mohammed Amin appeared before the court on Thursday, January 30. They provided information regarding three youths who disappeared from Mlolongo last month.
IG Kanja confirmed that the police had formally recorded reports of the missing individuals. The cases were documented at Athi River Police Station under OB No. 23/21/12/24 and Mlolongo Police Station under OB No. 43/25/12/2024.
Addressing the court, Kanja stated, “Your Honour, I am here following a court order regarding three individuals reported missing from Athi River and Mlolongo.”
The Inspector General took the opportunity to assure Kenyans that the country remains secure. He emphasized that robust security measures were in place, especially during the festive season.

“Your Honour, I want Kenyans to know they are safe. We just came from the holiday season, and people enjoyed Christmas without security threats. This country remains secure, and as the Inspector General, I assure everyone of their safety,” Kanja said.
State Prosecutor Mark Baraza confirmed that the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) had instructed the Inspector General to investigate the abductions. The DPP expects a comprehensive report from the police.
“We acknowledge these abduction cases. After receiving complaints, the DPP directed the IG to investigate. The police operate with institutional independence, and we anticipate their findings. These cases have been widely discussed on social and mainstream media,” Baraza stated.
Meanwhile, lawyer Nyamodi informed the court that both Kanja and Amin had traveled abroad on Tuesday. However, they returned on Thursday morning to comply with the court’s directive.
The case remains under active investigation as authorities work to establish the whereabouts of the missing youths.
