Exclusion of Primary Teachers in JSS Retooling
The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has indicated that primary school teachers posted to Junior Secondary School (JSS) will not partake in the retooling exercise. In March this year, a total of 7400 primary educators were deployed to Juniors Secondary to teach 7th grade learners.
However, according to the teachers service commission, only newly employed teachers are eligible to take part in the retooling exercise that began on Monday October 9th 2023 and ending on October 13th 2023.
It is essential to note that the total number of teachers who will partake in the retooling exercise is 56,000. According to the TSC CEO Dr. Nancy Macharia, teachers have played a pivotal role in the implementation of the Competency Based Curriculum. At the same time, teachers have shown a high level of commitment in delivery of their primary duty of imparting knowledge to learners.

Dr. Nancy Macharia expressed her gratitude to both primary and preprimary school teachers for embracing the Competency Based Curriculum and have made a commitment to impart valuable skills and values to learners.
She made this remarks while speaking at an event marking the World Teachers Day held at the Kenya School of Government in Nairobi.
According to a previous request by TSC, teachers will receive training in various subjects including languages, science, mathematics, humanities, and technical fields.
In regard to training centers, teachers across the country are receiving their training at Teacher Training Colleges in various locations in the country.
It is important to note that Master Trainers and Trainers of Trainers had already received their training at an earlier date at the Kenya Institute of Special Education.
The retooling exercise comes after the recruitment of 18,000 teachers by TSC to JSS in late August and early September.
