Stay Vigilant, Act Responsibly, and Prioritize Your Children’s Care.
Parents have received guidance to stay vigilant and actively engage with their children during the upcoming two-month holiday when their kids will be at home. Flora Ntongai, the Deputy Director for Education Reforms and Implementation of Junior Schools Programmes emphasized that this extended break provides parents with a valuable opportunity to closely monitor, nurture, and guide their children towards responsible citizenship.
Ntongai highlighted the importance of the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC), which encourages a collaborative approach to raising and educating children. She urged parents to allocate more time to their children, emphasizing the need for personal involvement and support instead of delegating these responsibilities to others.
These recommendations were shared during an event at Moi Educational Centre (MEC) in Nairobi, which celebrated the graduation of kindergarten pupils transitioning to grade 1 in January. Paul Chemng’orem, the Chairperson of the Board of Directors, hailed the event as a significant milestone in MEC’s growth and transformation as a school.

While recognizing the educational value of digital devices, Ntongai expressed concerns about the explicit content available on social media platforms. She compared giving a child an unsupervised mobile phone to handing them a loaded gun, underlining the potential harm it can cause to their future.
As the guest of honor at the event, Ntongai urged parents to shield their children from harmful social media influences and allow them adequate time for rest, not overburdening them with academic commitments.
Following the new CBC system, Moi Educational Centre (MEC), located in Nairobi’s South C, offers modern learning facilities for kindergarten, primary, and secondary education. The institution’s exceptional services in childhood development have earned it national recognition and accolades, including the title of the best lower school category at the last national music festivals.
MEC Principal Augustine Musyoka emphasized the school’s commitment to serving students with joy and dedication, promoting culture and heritage, and instilling desirable character traits in their pupils.
