Stakeholders Urge Strategic Plan for School Reopening Amid Floods.
Teachers and parents are voicing concerns about the prolonged closure of schools due to ongoing floods. Education stakeholders, including the Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) and the Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT), are urging the government to convene a meeting to develop a sustainable learning strategy during this challenging time.
Akelo Misori, the Secretary General of Kuppet, emphasized the need to rethink the school calendar and term dates to address the impact of the extended closure on students’ education. He also raised concerns about the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, which reduced students’ contact with teachers and increased their workload.
Collins Oyuu from Knut stressed the importance of implementing safety measures for learners and teachers before considering reopening schools. Safety should be a key priority to ensure a smooth return to learning environments.
