Shocking: High Level of Discrepancies in KCPE Results.
Just one day after the release of the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) results, disturbing revelations regarding discrepancies in the scores are emerging. The Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) has inadvertently assigned incorrect marks to certain candidates and allocated grades for subjects they did not even take.
Among those affected is Eddy Ikonge Bosire, a student from Kari Primary School in Kisii, whose received grades appear inconsistent. Bosire, upon checking the portal, discovered a disparity between the awarded grade and the actual score obtained. Notably, a significant error was noted in the allocation of marks for the Kenya Sign Language subject instead of Kiswahili, the language in which the examination was conducted.
Eddy Bosire’s case is emblematic of numerous candidates who have raised concerns with the Kenya National Examination Council, urging a prompt rectification of their KCPE results. The prevailing issue seems to be the unjust assignment of grades for subjects not attempted by the candidates.
Furthermore, instances have been reported where candidates with identical scores were assigned different grades. For example, one candidate scoring 74 marks in Social Studies and Religion received a B plain grade, while another candidate with a similar score of 73 marks in the same subject obtained a B plus grade.

Upon receiving complaints from concerned candidates, parents, and schools, KNEC has acknowledged the existence of discrepancies. Dr. David Njengere, the CEO of KNEC, has confirmed that candidates have a 30-day window to address issues with the examination body through the sub-county director of education. He clarified that candidates faced challenges due to the SMS service provider, not KNEC itself. Additionally, he assured that the matter received prompt attention after being raised on Friday.
It is crucial for affected candidates to utilize the provided window to rectify these issues promptly. The commitment of KNEC to resolving these discrepancies promptly is evident, and candidates should liaise with the appropriate channels to ensure accurate and fair representation of their performance in the KCPE results.
