Schools in Nyamira Receive Ksh 1 Billion From Kuwait.
The Government of Kuwait has made a commitment to invest Ksh 1 billion in a move to upgrade the infrastructure of schools in Nyamira County. According to Education Director in Nyamira County, Mr Joshua Kaga, they have already conducted a needs assessment in a bid to identify infrastructural needs across 68 schools in the county.
Many institutions of learning in the county face significant challenges with many being characterized by debilitated structures. In addition, insufficiency of classrooms and office blocks results in overcrowding among students and teachers. Limitations in water storage and harvesting systems also affect the quality of education in the county.
In addressing this issue, the Kenyan government has created a partnership with the government of Kuwait. The focus of this partnership is on improving infrastructure across 68 schools in the county to create ideal learning environments for students.
In actualizing this program, Hope Design Systems Limited and Al Habshi consultants of Kuwait, are working together to create a design and construction blueprint for this program.

According to Isaac Kamau, the lead architect for Hope Designs Systems Limited, they will focus on addressing independent needs for every school. However, he highlighted that some of the areas they will tackle include the construction and renovation of administration blocks, laboratories, libraries, and water storage and harvesting systems.
Further, project customization will involve meeting the needs and requirements of each school. In addition, additional funding will be essential in making any other necessary adjustments that might come up in the course of the project.
Importantly, they indicate that the challenges that might affect the project include the rugged terrain, and infrastructural shortcomings in the county. They however highlight that they have put the necessary mechanisms in place to ensure effective implementation of the program.
The county director of education therefore urges all education stakeholders in the county to collaborate with the facilitators of the project to ensure that the implementation of the program is successful.
