The case against Lenolkulal revolved around allegations that he engaged in conflict of interest by conducting business with the county government he led. Specifically, Lenolkulal was accused of using businessman Hesbon Ndathi as a proxy to secure contracts for the supply of fuel and oil products. The court found that this arrangement allowed Lenolkulal to profit from deals with the county, violating the ethical standards expected of public officials. This case highlights the importance of transparency and ethical conduct in public office, as well as the need to prevent conflicts of interest.

After the conviction, Lenolkulal’s defense team requested that he be granted bail while awaiting sentencing. However, the prosecution strongly opposed this request, arguing that the severity of the offense warranted denying bail. Chief Magistrate Nzioki agreed with the prosecution, stating that despite Lenolkulal’s good behavior in court, granting bail would not be appropriate in this case. The decision to deny bail reflects the court’s determination to ensure that justice is served in cases involving significant corruption.
The sentencing of Moses Lenolkulal is scheduled for Thursday at 10:30 a.m. This next step in the legal process will determine the former governor’s punishment for his actions. The outcome of this case will have broader implications for handling corruption cases in Kenya. This is particularly true for cases involving high-ranking public officials. It serves as a reminder that misuse of public office for personal gain will not go unpunished.
