President Ruto Assures Employment Solutions for JSS Teachers and Intern Doctors.
President William Ruto has emphasized his commitment to addressing the employment concerns of Junior Secondary School (JSS) teachers and intern doctors in Kenya. In a recent address, he acknowledged the challenges faced by these professionals and outlined the steps his administration is taking to support them.
Employment for JSS Teachers
President Ruto acknowledged the frustrations of JSS teachers who have been on strike, eagerly awaiting their transition to permanent and pensionable contracts. In addition, he revealed that an allocation of 18 billion Shillings had been included in the current finance bill to facilitate this transition. However, with the finance bill currently stalled, he appealed for patience from the teachers as his administration works on alternative solutions.
“I had factored in 18 billion Shillings in this year’s finance bill to be able to transfer JSS teachers to permanent and pensionable contracts,” President Ruto stated. “I ask for a bit of time to figure out how we are going to implement this.”

Support for Intern Doctors
In addition to addressing the concerns of JSS teachers, President Ruto also focused on intern doctors and young clinical officers. He highlighted the critical role they play in the healthcare system, especially under the Universal Health Coverage (UHC) program. To support their employment, the government earmarked 3 billion Shillings and intended an additional 10 billion Shillings for the UHC program in the finance bill.
Despite the absence of the finance bill causing financial constraints, President Ruto reassured the medical community that he remains dedicated to finding ways to fulfill his promises. He stressed the importance of their contributions to the country’s healthcare services and pledged to prioritize their employment.
