Political Activist Morara Kebaso Arrested Over Disruptive Remarks at Bomas Event.
Political activist Morara Kebaso was arrested following an incident at the Bomas of Kenya during a public hearing regarding Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s impeachment. The activist reportedly caused a disturbance by shouting provocative remarks that led to chaos at the event. His arrest has stirred debate, with Kebaso claiming the incident was part of a premeditated plan against him.
Kebaso’s arrest took place shortly after he allegedly disrupted the public participation event by shouting “kufa dereva, kufa makanga” (meaning “if the driver dies, so does the conductor”). The phrase, aimed at stirring emotions during the impeachment discussion, reportedly led to unrest among the attendees. According to the charge sheet, this statement incited public disturbance and threatened the peace at the forum.
After his remarks, chaos erupted at the venue. In the ensuing commotion, Kebaso faced hostility from some attendees, who allegedly attacked him with chairs. His security detail acted swiftly to ensure his safety, escorting him out of the venue. The activist sustained minor injuries during the altercation. Following the incident, he was first taken to Lang’ata Police Station before being moved to Karen Hardy Police Station, where he is currently being held.

Reflecting on the events, Kebaso insists that the attack was premeditated. He believes that certain individuals, unhappy with his stance on impeaching both President William Ruto and Deputy President Gachagua, orchestrated the chaos. According to Kebaso, there were clear warning signs that trouble awaited him at Bomas.

In an interview on Spice FM, he recounted how police officers initially prevented him from entering the venue. Even after gaining access, he was blocked at multiple entry points inside the building. Kebaso stated that, despite these red flags, he persisted. However, he now believes that these obstacles were part of a plot to compromise his security.
Morara Kebaso’s arrest has raised questions about freedom of speech and the extent to which public participation can be conducted peacefully. The activist continues to defend his actions, arguing that his arrest and the violent reaction at Bomas were results of his political stance. As the situation develops, many are watching to see what legal action, if any, will be taken against Kebaso for his involvement in the Bomas disturbance.
