Machogu: I Do Not Have the Authority to Distribute Employment Letters.
In a recent turn of events, Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu has been at the center of controversy regarding the distribution of employment letters from the Teachers Service Commission (TSC). However, the Education CS denies these claims arguing that, the TSC is the only body with the mandate to employ teachers in Kenya.
Machogu was speaking in response to a request by Members of the county assembly of Trans-Nzoia county on the distribution of letter to their constituents who are currently not on employment. In his response, he argues that he does not have the responsibility to issue employment letters to individuals.
As a result, the issue has sparked a heated debate on the integrity of employment processes within government bodies in Kenya. The Teachers Service Commission, which is responsible for the recruitment and management of teachers’ professional affairs, must maintain a fair and transparent hiring process. Therefore, the distribution of employment letters at rallies, if true, could undermine public trust in the TSC’s recruitment process and raise questions about political interference.

The public’s reaction is a mix of opinions. Some criticize what they perceive as an abuse of power and a departure from standard recruitment protocols, alleging that TSC employment letters distribution at rallies is evident. On the other hand, others have defended the Cabinet Secretaries, claiming that these employment letters are part of government initiatives to offer jobs and assistance to constituents.
As the story unfolds, it remains crucial for the TSC and other government departments to clarify their stance on employment policies and ensure that all Kenyan citizens have equal access to employment opportunities, regardless of political affiliation or participation in public rallies. The integrity of the employment process must be upheld to foster trust and equity in public service.
