Machakos University Students Demonstrate Over HELB Delay.
Students from Machakos University Took to the streets to demonstrate against delayed HELB disbursement to first-year students.
According to student leaders from the university, the focus of the demonstration was to sensitize the government on the challenges comrades are facing due to the delayed disbursement of funds for first-year students.
The students requested the government release the funds immediately to allow them to sit their end-of-semester examinations, which are around the corner. Under university examination policy, students cannot sit for examinations without clearing university fees. As it stands, many first-year students have yet to register for course units.
According to the student leaders, the government is at fault for giving false promises to the students as they were joining the university. However, to date, the government is yet to honor these promises. Students from poor backgrounds are sleeping angry with student leaders under high pressure.
