Leaders Criticize Gachagua Over Divisive Politics, Push for Change.
Kenya Kwanza leaders have voiced strong disapproval of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s alleged divisive rhetoric, particularly his focus on regionalism and tribalism. Key figures like National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula and Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah are calling for a united Kenya, emphasizing that national unity should come before regional loyalties.
At a weekend rally, Speaker Moses Wetang’ula took a firm stance, accusing Gachagua of promoting discord by focusing on tribal affiliations. Wetang’ula remarked, “In our region, we have Mount Elgon, but we don’t define ourselves solely by it.” His message highlighted that all Kenyans should feel a collective ownership of the country, regardless of where they reside.
Adding to this, Ichung’wah emphasized that “The mountain belongs to all Kenyans,” pointing out that tribal division undermines national solidarity. He urged leaders to focus on building bridges rather than stoking tensions based on ethnicity.

The leaders did not hold back in asserting that Gachagua’s alleged lack of loyalty to President William Ruto had contributed to his current challenges. Wetang’ula underscored that loyalty is the foundation of political trust, while Ichung’wah reiterated the dangers of divisive politics. Tharaka Nithi Senator Mwenda Gataya hinted that significant changes could come soon, raising speculation about the potential swearing-in of Professor Kindiki as Deputy President in Gachagua’s place.
Other Kenya Kwanza members chimed in, stressing the importance of a swift judicial process to resolve the situation. Homa Bay Town MP Peter Kaluma echoed this sentiment, advocating for a quick conclusion. “Kenya is one,” said Rangwe MP Lilian Gogo, reinforcing the message of national unity.

In a notable remark, Kibwezi West MP Mwengi Mutuse urged wisdom in leadership, saying, “Even strength must yield to wisdom.” Mutuse’s comment highlights a broader call for thoughtful, inclusive leadership that prioritizes unity.
The Kenya Kwanza leaders’ recent criticisms underscore their concerns over Gachagua’s influence and the need for inclusive governance that unites, rather than divides. Their call for a Kenya that belongs to all resonates deeply with citizens across the nation.
