Government Plans to Revamp Jomo Kenyatta Foundation to Streamline Scholarship and Bursary Distribution.
The government is planning to undertake a complete overhaul of the Jomo Kenyatta Foundation (JKF) through the State Department of Basic Education. The focus is on enhancing its abilities in coordinating and streamlining the distribution of scholarships and bursaries.
JKF is a parastatal that was established in 1966 under the Ministry of Education. Its key focus is on providing insight on education, poverty alleviation, and responding to public distress within East Africa.

In 1968, JKF put in place a scholarship fund as a means of achieving its primary objective of educational advancement and poverty alleviation. As a result, it focuses on two critical areas including publishing and scholarships.
The intention to revamp JKF is a resultant factor of Belio Kipsang’s utterances while attending a meeting with County Commissioners and County Directors of Education in Mombasa.
In his statement, Kipsang argues that it is important to enhance the ability of JKF to coordinate the allocation of bursaries. According to him, JKF can achieve this through the establishment of a beneficiary database. As a result, it will be therefore possible to eliminate dual beneficiaries.
In addition, according to the PS, it is essential to promptly finalize the allocation of bursaries to beneficiaries to ensure that students do not stay out of school due to lack of funds.

In his speech, Kipsang argues that it is improper to base the allocation of bursaries on the voting patterns of parents. Rather, he argues that bursary allocation is an entitlement of children and should not derive its basis from parent political alignment.
Finally, he acknowledges the efforts of County governments, the Constituency Development Fund (CDF), and Elimu scholarships for their continuous efforts in the provision of bursaries and scholarships to students.
