Gachagua Claims Kindiki Will Face Forced Resignation If He Challenges Authority.
Rigathi Gachagua, the recently impeached Deputy President, has raised concerns that his successor, Kithure Kindiki, faces removal from office if he challenges authority. Gachagua, whom the National Assembly and Senate ousted in a joint decision, stated that those in power will demand Kindiki sign a resignation letter to silence him at any time. Although President William Ruto nominated Kindiki to replace Gachagua, court orders have delayed his assumption of office.
Speaking at a press conference, Gachagua alleged that the powers that be see Kindiki, currently the Interior Cabinet Secretary, as a pliable figure who will not question them. Gachagua described Kindiki as a professional who lacks the courage to speak up or challenge authority. He suggested that those in power plan to make Kindiki sign an undated resignation letter, enabling them to dismiss him at will.
“If Kindiki starts asking questions, they’ll simply tell him to resign,” Gachagua claimed, emphasizing the control exercised over leadership positions.

During the press briefing, Gachagua made shocking accusations about two assassination attempts targeting him before Parliament formally presented his impeachment. He claimed that undercover police agents tried to poison him on August 30 in Kisumu. Gachagua stated that his team detected the poison in his food, which allowed him to escape.
He also alleged another attempt on September 3 in Nyeri, where National Intelligence Service (NIS) officers tried to poison food meant for him and Kikuyu elders. “I reported the matter to the NIS and dismissed the officers assigned to me,” Gachagua stated. He believes these failed attempts led to the impeachment motion.

Currently, court orders have blocked Kindiki from assuming office as Deputy President. The High Court in Kerugoya, in response to a case filed by David Munyi Mathenge and Peter Kamotho, has suspended Kindiki’s swearing-in pending a legal hearing. The court ruled that the case is of significant national importance and must be resolved before any further steps are taken. Chief Justice Martha Koome has been tasked with appointing a bench of judges to handle the case.
Additionally, the court has halted the Senate’s resolution to uphold Gachagua’s impeachment. Justice Chacha Mwita, recognizing the public interest in the matter, issued a conservatory order staying the impeachment’s implementation. This includes blocking the appointment of Gachagua’s replacement until the next court hearing, scheduled for October 24.
As the political drama unfolds, Gachagua’s accusations of betrayal and control cast a shadow over the country’s leadership. The legal challenges surrounding Kindiki’s appointment, coupled with Gachagua’s claims of assassination attempts and political maneuvering, signal a tense period for Kenya’s governance. The final ruling on these matters will be crucial for determining the country’s leadership moving forward.
