Fake Professor: Maasai Mara University Don Accused of Forgery.
Rolex Kimani Wakiaga has raised serious allegations against a professor at Maasai Mara University, claiming that he holds forged documents. Wakiaga seeks to block Prof James Simiren Ole Nampushi from being appointed as the deputy vice-chancellor. These claims have sparked a significant controversy within the academic community.
Allegations and Details
Rolex Kimani Wakiaga, the petitioner, alleges that Prof James Simiren Ole Nampushi, currently a lecturer at Maasai Mara University, holds falsified academic documents. Wakiaga also claims that the professor has a fake birth certificate and a forged national identity card. These allegations, if true, could have serious repercussions for Prof Ole Nampushi’s career and reputation.
Wakiaga has petitioned the Public Service Commission (PSC) to prevent Prof Ole Nampushi from being interviewed for the deputy vice-chancellor position at the university. Despite these allegations, Education Point has confirmed that Prof Ole Nampushi was interviewed on June 11, 2024, alongside other candidates. These include Prof Oyaro Nathan Mayora, Prof Loice Chemngetich Maru, Prof Hellen Kiende Mberia, Prof Margaret Akoth Oloko, Prof James M.J. Njiru, and Prof Fredrick B. J Angaga Ngala.
The PSC, which advertised the position in February this year, received 27 applications and shortlisted seven candidates, including Prof Ole Nampushi. The commission has invited the public to provide any credible information regarding the shortlisted candidates.
Questionable Academic Journey
Wakiaga’s petition claims that Prof Ole Nampushi gained admission to Moi University using forged documents. Subsequently, he studied for a degree in tourism and travel services management. Furthermore, the petitioner argues that Prof Ole Nampushi’s academic certificates, purportedly obtained from the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC), are questionable. Specifically, these include the Certificate of Primary Education, Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education, Advanced Certificate of Secondary School, and Higher National Diploma in Personnel Management.
Wakiaga has urged the PSC to verify the authenticity of Prof Ole Nampushi’s certificates with KNEC. He believes that these questionable documents render Prof Ole Nampushi’s degree obsolete and invalid. Wakiaga also claims that Prof Ole Nampushi used this degree from Moi University to gain admission to Clemson University in the United States. There, he completed a master’s degree in parks, recreation, and leisure studies, followed by a doctorate in parks, recreation, and tourism management.
Call for Revocation
The petitioner calls on the Commission for University Education to revoke Prof Ole Nampushi’s PhD and his appointment as an associate professor at Maasai Mara University. Wakiaga also alleges that Prof Ole Nampushi is under investigation by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission for forgery and document falsification.

Additionally, Wakiaga attached copies of two birth certificates with varying dates of birth. He claims that Prof Ole Nampushi’s actual date of birth is December 20, 1965, not December 20, 1975, as the professor has stated.
Implications and Next Steps
These allegations have consequently raised concerns about the integrity of academic appointments at Maasai Mara University. Furthermore, if the claims are proven true, it could lead to significant consequences for Prof Ole Nampushi, including the loss of his academic credentials and positions. Therefore, the PSC and other relevant authorities must thoroughly investigate these allegations to uphold the credibility of the academic institutions involved.
The academic community and the public eagerly await the outcomes of these investigations. Therefore, this case highlights the importance of verifying academic credentials and maintaining transparency in academic appointments. It serves as a reminder that integrity and honesty are paramount in the education sector.
In conclusion, the allegations against Prof James Simiren Ole Nampushi have stirred significant controversy. The investigation’s results will be crucial in determining the next steps and ensuring the integrity of academic appointments at Maasai Mara University. As a result, the academic community must prioritize transparency and accountability to maintain trust and uphold educational standards.
