Eregi Teachers Training College (ETTC) Aims for Full University Accreditation.
Governor Fernandes Barasa of Kakamega County has pledged to fast-track the elevation of Eregi Teachers Training College (ETTC) to full university status. This strategic initiative, undertaken in partnership with the National Government, aims to expand educational opportunities by offering a wide array of specialized courses to students from Kakamega and neighboring counties.
During discussions with stakeholders from the Idhako South community in Matungu Sub-County, Governor Barasa emphasized the pivotal role of this transformation in enhancing regional access to higher education. He highlighted plans for ETTC to become a constituent campus of Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology, a move expected to significantly bolster academic offerings and infrastructure at the college.

Accompanied by Patrick Butichi, Chief Officer for Special Programs, and other county officials, Governor Barasa outlined additional development initiatives integral to Kakamega County’s growth trajectory. These initiatives include the conversion of Milimani and Imalava dispensaries into fully equipped health centers. Moreover, plans encompass the modernization of Sheywe Polytechnic, the construction of Lukose Bridge, and the establishment of Imalaba Market. Additionally, efforts are underway to construct the Shisejeri modern market and complete the Butwehe last mile water connectivity project in Kaluni, Shanjesto, and Madivini areas.

ETTC, established in 1949 by the Catholic Mill Hill Fathers, boasts ample facilities. These include expansive grounds, well-equipped classrooms, lecture halls, staff residences, laboratories, and sufficient sanitation facilities. Additionally, with an initial capacity to accommodate 3000 students, the college has played a pivotal role in teacher training within the region.
The commitment to upgrade ETTC aligns with Kakamega County’s broader agenda of fostering educational excellence and infrastructure development. Moreover, Governor Barasa’s administration remains steadfast in its efforts to harness local resources and partnerships. This commitment aims to propel ETTC towards full university accreditation, thereby nurturing a more educated and skilled workforce for the region.
