Embu University Strengthens Curriculum-Industry Partnerships for Career-Ready Graduates
Embu University’s Physical Sciences Department is taking significant strides to connect academic learning with industry demands. By establishing active partnerships with various industries, the department aims to equip students with critical, real-world skills. This approach prepares them to enter the job market with hands-on experience and practical knowledge, bridging the gap between academic training and industry requirements.
Dr. George Nyamato, the Department Chairman, highlights the importance of these partnerships in shaping students’ learning journeys. To expose students to industry operations, the department organizes field trips that give them direct insights into actual work environments. These excursions offer more than a glimpse into industry life, they foster innovation and creativity while encouraging students to adapt classroom concepts to practical applications.

In recent field trips, Analytical Chemistry students explored the National Phototherapeutics Research Centre, while Industrial Chemistry students gained experience at United Paints Limited. These visits allowed students to witness their fields in action, enhancing their understanding of the career paths ahead.
Beyond field visits, the department actively expands its programs by strengthening industry collaborations and engaging in joint supervision initiatives. Recently, they welcomed Prof. Stephen Ojwach from the University of KwaZulu-Natal in South Africa. This collaboration focuses on supervising postgraduate research, faculty exchanges, and capacity-building efforts.

Through industry linkages and collaborative initiatives, Embu University’s Physical Sciences Department remains committed to enriching students’ academic and career prospects.
