DP Rigathi Gachagua Responds After MPs Vote for His Impeachment.
Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua found himself in the eye of the political storm after Members of Parliament voted for his impeachment. As the news spread, Gachagua took to social media to share his thoughts and a message of faith, quoting Bible verses to address the public. The political tensions surrounding the impeachment now shift to the Senate, where he will face another round of scrutiny.
Following the vote, Gachagua posted two Bible verses on his social media accounts, a move that captured the attention of both supporters and critics. The first verse he shared was 1 Thessalonians 5:18, which advises believers to “give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” Gachagua, known for his public displays of faith, ended his post with a simple but powerful phrase: “It is well.” These spiritual posts seemed to signal his calm demeanor and readiness to face the next step in the political process.

The motion to impeach Gachagua, spearheaded by Kibwezi West MP Mwengi Mutuse, listed 11 serious allegations. Among these were claims of gross constitutional violations, undermining both the President and the Cabinet, and compromising judicial independence. The Deputy President was also accused of making inflammatory remarks, committing economic crimes, and spreading divisive messages. Additionally, he was charged with undermining devolution and publicly disrespecting the President, which the MPs cited as grounds for his removal.
Before the National Assembly vote, Gachagua appeared in person to defend himself against the charges. In a two-hour-long address, he argued that the impeachment motion was politically motivated and lacked substantial evidence. He insisted that the allegations were baseless and part of a larger political scheme to discredit him. Despite his defense, MPs proceeded with the vote, setting the stage for a Senate showdown.

The nation awaits the Senate’s decision on whether the Deputy President will retain his position or face removal from office. In the meantime, Gachagua’s public response emphasizes his readiness to confront the political battle head-on.
